Arthur I.
Ungerman has been practicing law in the Dallas-Fort Worth area
with various firms for approximately 30 years. His primary
emphasis is in creditors' and debtors' rights law. Mr.
Ungerman has been representing both secured and unsecured
creditors and debtors in out-of-court workouts and in Chapter 7
and Chapter 11 proceedings, including bankruptcy related
litigation involving preferences, fraudulent transfers and
dischargeability issues. His practice areas include
bankruptcy law, insolvency law, debtor and creditor rights law.
He has recently been certified as mediator by the Southern
Methodist University Alternative Dispute Resolution Program.
Arthur I.
Ungerman was born in Dallas, Texas, April 25, 1935; admitted to
the bar, 1960, Texas and U.S. District Court, Northern District
of Texas; 1980, U.S. Supreme Court; 1981, U.S. Court of Appeals,
Fifth and Eleventh Circuits. He was educated at Southern
Methodist University and received a BBA degree in 1956 and a LLB
degree from the University of Texas in 1959. He authored
the chapter on "Creditors' Committees" Bankruptcy Reform Act
Manual Ed., 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th Editions, 1996. He
was president of Commercial Law League of America, 1981-1982.
He was one of the founding members and chairman of the
Bankruptcy and Insolvency Section, Commercial Law League of
America, 1984. He was a member of the Advisory Panel, Abt
Associates Evaluation of the U.S. Trustee Pilot Program for the
Administration of Bankruptcy Cases, 1982. He is a member
of the Dallas and American Bar Associations and the State Bar of
Texas.
As a result
of the September 11, 2001 crisis and the subsequent economic
downturn, Mr. Ungerman has been representing several owners of
hotel and gas station convenience stores in negotiating
modifications to their loan agreements, as well as filing
Chapter 11 for the reorganization of these businesses.
